I would like to be exiled to planet Risa and take along my bikini, iPod, and a box of condoms.

Upcoming new blog
May. 22nd, 2008 | 07:29 pm
mood:
groggy
I am thinking about creating a new LiveJournal handle and dedicating the blog page about what is like being a single female scientist. I will include postings about life as scientist in training while dealing with dating and occasional stupidity in the real world. I will still keep my taishan page for random ramblings, but my new handle will be updated everyday (really every morning when my brain is not fried) and will be much more in depth hopefully insightful and somewhat humorous.
I will keep all of you informed so that I can friend some people to my new blog.

Writer's Block: Whose part would you play?
May. 22nd, 2008 | 07:21 pm
Tough to say because there are alot of TV characters that I have loved over the years. But for right now, I would be Joel Robinson (Joel Hodgson) in Mystery Science Theater 3000:

I would participate in the invention exchange and riff bad movies with the bots every day.

Writer's Block: Happy Friday
Apr. 25th, 2008 | 09:09 am
I am not looking forward to do anything except finishing up on a couple of projects. I have to give a presentation on my research this Monday and another one on a computer simulation this Wednesday. I will be busy running one last experiment and debugging a code. I hope to have some kind of enjoyment in the next couple of days.

Writer's Block: Saturday Night
Apr. 5th, 2008 | 09:14 am
Very different. I was married five years ago so we would just stay home and watch a movie. Now my Saturday nights are varied since I am in the dating world. I may be out to dinner or some other form of entertainment with a lucky suitor; otherwise I am at my apartment alone catching up on work.

You're Dune!
by Frank Herbert
You have control over a great wealth of resources, but no one wants to
let you have them. You've decided to try to defend yourself, but it may take eons before
you really get back what you feel you deserve. Meanwhile you have a cult-like following
of minions waiting for your life to progress. This would all be even more exciting if you
could just get the sand out of your eyes.

Fashion disasters

annoyed
This fashion combination is what I consider is gross:
-Ugg boots
-Victoria's Secret PINK sweatpants
-the overdone fake tan
-fake bleach blond hair
Why do I see this quite a bit around the Kent State Campus? Most graduate students wouldn't caught dead wearing this shit around in public. It seems that alot of the American undergrads have no fucking taste. They are just as bland and poor taste as the McMansions that they will move into after they get married and shit out snowflakes like Bryson and McKenzie.

music: Rush -"Working Them Angels"
1. Rush extends their Snakes and Arrows tour in 2008. The extension includes cities that they have not visited in years as well as their favorites (Cleveland possibly). The dates will be announced in mid January. I have seen them last August when they played in Blossom and the concert is compared to that of a religious experience.
2. Star Trek: The Tour.

The exhibition will stop in Cleveland but no date yet. This will be a chance for me to wear my Seven of Nine costume other than Halloween :)

Picard Scrooge says "Bah Humbug"
Dec. 6th, 2007 | 12:01 pm
mood:
bitchy

The holiday season is already here. The snow is falling and I am finishing up studying for finals and prepping on end of the semester projects while I am fighting through this cold.
There are aspects in the holiday season that I really enjoy. I will get to spend quality time with my parents in Florida and my relatives in Cincinnati. I will get to stay up later and sleep in. I will have time to watch movies, read, and work on my sewing projects. I may even try skiing for the first time.
However, there is one thing that annoys the fuck out of me as a result of Christmas. The more fortunate ones are made to feel pity and guilt over those less fortunate than us. Yes, the economy in America has not done too well this year. There is a rise in foreclosures and the value of the American dollar is slipping. Many families will not get to have a Christmas this year. My apartment is doing a Christmas food/toy drive and they are begging from the tenents (consistly mostly poor grad students) to donate. Also, I received an email from a friend of mine begging our department for donations to help a family friend of his.
Now, I do receive enjoyment through giving. I love strolling through the mall and thinking about my parents or my friends and buying gifts that put smiles on their faces. But the more sob stories I hear about before I have a chance to finish Christmas shopping for those whom I really give a care about, I become more of a Scrooge. And if I hear "God Bless" from someone one more time, I will kick them in the shins.
